The musicians of Arbadétorne share with you their long history of dance music by offering a traditional bal with the rich repertoire of the Vendée: avant-deux, maraîchines, îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier's circle danses, "grand’danses"… The overflowing energy of the bal in the "Arbadétorne style" makes the dancer embark on a story. An abounding universe made of circle-leading songs, buzzing violins, an aerial accordion punctuated by an obsessive rhythm on the guitar. The leader's banter, an unbridled musical energy, a "small dance to put on your dancing shoes"... «  i te garantis qu’o va garocher ! »

These three musicians come from the same region, have known each other for several years and have often played together - they went to the same parties and share the same culture - so it's no surprise that they came to form a trio in 2015. Baia Trio is 'the' trio for any party such as the "Baìo de Sempeyre" - a great party with costumes and music that takes place every 5 years - in the Val Varaita in Italy: a high valley in the Alps that serves as the geographical bond between Cunéo in italy and Briançon in France, and also as the linguistic bond between the "Occitan" and the "Francoprovençal". Gabriele has participated several times for the town of "Rore". The trio accompanies the dancer's steps and makes them jump on original folk repertoire, gathered and experienced from tradition, that they reinvent on the scene. Violin, guitar, electroacoustic hurdy-gurdy, viol and three voices: Enrico, Francesco and Gabriele carried out many experiences - together and individually - going from the purest tradition to the most extreme experiments in order to create a new sound - archaic, powerful and refined.

Soirée du Saturday 04 April

You already know them - they're involved in many projects, especially iconic duos of the french trad scene. We could think their universes and approaches to dance music to be very different from one another, but the meeting between these two talented accordion players - among the grooviest on the dancefloor - is quite logical from the sheer respect they have for each other. After a couple of musical exchanges, the intimate intuition that they were made to play togehter became quite obvious. This duet is the reflection of two artistic paths that question themselves - they graze each other and meet again - between compositions and traditional tunes, between complementarity and complicity, accords and disagreements, jousting and symbiosis Diatonic… dynamic, technical, rhythmic, atypical…

Take two dance music enthusiasts, let the repertoire from lower-Brittany and kof ha kof dances simmer, sprinkle the melodic crunch of spicy arrangements and deglaze a modern breton swing the old-fashioned way, and you will get the Landat - Moisson duo. The voice of one and the accordion of the other feed their "mojo" with living sources of some of the most thrilling repertoires, and attract us with an engaging generosity of this "Breizh Swing", both simple and virtuoso. Krogit ba’n dañs !

Imnari means "anthem collection" in Occitan: at the confluence of the mediterranean cittern, the polar nyckelharpa and the indian tabla... Dive into the Imnaginary universe of a bal where the 24 strings of the cittern and the nyckelharpa vibrate with the tabla, and where the dancer's hearts play in a passionate momentum - inviting them to an incredible trip! Nevertheless, we recognize - in the filigree of this music - an improbable lacework of roots buried in our migratory memories… For Funambals 2020, Imnari invites the cretan musician Vassilis Chatzimakris.

Komred is a group of five young musicians that together and at a young age discovered the music and traditional dances from Auvergne at the Gamounet, home of the « Brayauds ». Always at the service of the dancer, a rich arrangements work makes the most of the tones and sounds of all the different instruments. The bourrées and other traditional melodies are fabricated, digested, coloured... all while respecting style, phrasing and rhythm. Adding their own compositions to the wealth of the local repertoire, the musicians of Komred offer an energetic and lively "Bal auvergnat", using the bourrée in 3 as the common thread!

A meeting between two seemingly distant universes - trad and rap - but between which we can weave links, and especially on the values of sharing and fraternity. Adding voice and vocal flow to traditional dance music. Inviting rap to explore new rhythmical codes imposed by the metric of balfolk dances.

Loogaroo is a new balfolk duo with Pablo Golder (diatonic accordion) and Florian De Schepper (acoustic guitar). After being on the road together for more than 6 years with different projects, Pablo & Florian recently started playing in a duo and decided to continue this new band which they named “Loogaroo”. Not to be confused with “loup-garou”, “loogaroo” is a Carribean mythological creature that turns herself into a bright ball of light to haunt the night. No wolf howling music but powerful and surprising melodies by Pablo, accompanied with Florians groovy and pumping rhythms that will keep you dancing all night long, even underneath a full moon.

Rhytmically intense bourrées, romantic mazurkas, irish-perfumed circles, spinning waltzes... Since 2011 the four musicians of Mister Klof blend elegantly hornpipe, guitar, accordeon and the flute. Mixing their passion for traditional music to other, more contemporary influences, they propose supercharged bals to dancers from France and all of Europe.

Soirée du Thursday 02 April
00:00:00 - 02:00:00 /

Petit Piment gathers the prolific personalities of the contemporary trad scene. Lucas Thébaut on the accordion, Arnaud Bibonne on the bagpipes from the lands of Gascogne, Florian Huygebaert on percussions and Léo Danais on drums. They deliver - both in bals and concerts - not only compositions inspired by traditional repertoires of the Poitou and Gascogne but also rearranged traditional tunes. The manufacturing secret of Petit Piment lies in an explosive poly-rhythmic mix that colours their repertoire with afro-caribbean touches... an atypical and over-vitaminized combo.

The Trencadit - a stag beetle with antler jaws - evokes an earthly and aerial life, combative and biting, that reigns in the kingdom of insects. The musicians of Trencadit are imbued with traditional musics and fed on rock, cosmic and electronic sounds, sustaining the collective trance of the bal. Pop(ular) music meets the astral humming. A sound draping the pulsation calls movement, dance, the tribal spirit that shrouds the forests of Gascogne.
